ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has directed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to gear up its ongoing efforts for providing speedy relief and rehabilitation to the earthquake affected people of Balochistan.
He told the concerned authorities to ensure prompt supply of food items in the affected areas and said there should be no shortage of food items in that area at any cost.
The Prime Minister gave these instructions while presiding over a high level meeting to review the ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts by NDMA in the earthquake affected areas.
Lt. Gen. Farooq Ahmed Khan briefed the Prime Minister about the NDMAs ongoing efforts for provision of speedy relief and rehabilitation to the earthquake affectees of the Balochistan province.
He said that blankets, quilts, tents, warm jackets, plastic bags and food items were being provided to the earthquake victims by NDMA on a war footing basis. He also said that medical teams have also been providing health care facilities to the affected people round the clock.
The Chairman of NDMA further said that Rs. 25000 alongwith 15 CNI sheets would also be provided to each affectee in order to reconstruct mud houses on priority as tents would not protect them as snow is likely to fall in these areas in a few weeks. The Prime Minister lauded the ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts being made by the NDMA.
He also directed the concerned authorities to keep a strong vigil on unscrupulous elements who were allegedly involved in selling relief goods in some places as brought to the notice of the government.
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani have already announced an amount of Rs.200,000 and Rs.300,000 respectively as compensation to each victims family and Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 100,000 to each injured.
