Twelve Fedyheen fighters are ready to strike in Peshawar, the capital
of Taliban-controlled Northwest Frontier Province as the hub of the
old silk route through Afghanistan spins out of control and the TTP
strike back against Pak military operations.
According to JUS sources, several hundred Fedyheen fighters swore
bayat to Tehrik-e-Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsood a few weeks ago in
an unknown location. In Peshawar, the martyrdom bombers are ready to
deploy against military and government targets in an effort to force
the withdrawal of the Pakistani army from NWFP within the coming days.
Just a few miles outside the capital, in the once thriving gun markets
of Derra Adam Khel, businesses are closed due to Pakistani army
operations a few weeks ago. The rubble is still clearly visible and
the Pak army has set up permanent positions manned by snipers on top
of buildings in order to prevent the markets from reopening and shore
up entrance to the capital.
Unprecedented security measures by the recently empowered ANP
government who rose to power in a highly criticized election have been
implemented in Peshawar. The majority of the ANP ministers have
abandoned flags on their official cars, are altering their travel
routes to their homes and all roads leading to the Governors house,
Frontier House and the Civil Secretariat have been closed to traffic.
Concrete blocks have been erected on some roads that lead to official
residences and tensions are running high.
Peshawar is now a city out of control. With rising food pricing, 16
hours of daily load shedding that leaves the city with power for
only eight out of every 24 hours, high unemployment due to business
closures, bomb blasts and extensive street crime, Peshawar has become
a prime recruiting ground for the new counterfeit Mujahideen groups
that are sprouting up all over the country that is plagued with
poverty. These so-called groups, including some that call themselves
Taliban, carry out a variety of crimes including kidnapping, theft and
even murder for sometimes nothing more than a cell phone. There is
wide spread belief that these new so-called Taliban are foreign backed
and dawning beards and Taliban garb, are carrying actions in the name
of the Taliban in order to further justify Pak army and American
strikes inside Pakistan.
One such action was the Marriot bombing. The TTP official spokesman
Mulvi Omar flatly denied responsibility for the attack. It should be
noted that the TTP are quick to claim responsibility for the
operations they carry out and equally as quick to deny attacks they
have not these days. In addition, Supreme Commander Baitullah Mehsood
has handed down a strict media ban; no foreign media interviews or
liaisons of any kind with any commanders, with the same applying to
local news media without expressed permission of the Shura Council.
Responsibility for attacks is issued through their official spokesmen
only in an effort to distance themselves from the forged groups that
are further destabilizing the country. Furthermore, with fighting now
underway against the Pakistani Army, the TTP have tightened security
to extreme levels, abandoning traditional communication methods and
enforcing strict operational orders.
In the early hours Thursday morning, Mehsoods Fedyheen forces struck with a vengeance in Mingora in the Swat valley, when a martyrdom seeker detonated his payload at a police station killing four
policemen and injuring 30 others. The building was razed to the
ground. The SWAT chapter of the TTP, headed by Mualana Fazullah and its spokesman Muslim Khan claimed responsibility and warned that more of the same kind of attacks are to come unless the Pakistani army withdraws its forces from the valley.
In the meantime, Peshawar is a city wound up tight with anticipation
of where and when the next bomber will strike. (JUS)
